WARNING: THE FOLLOW POST MAY MAKE YOU THINK I’M INSANE
OKAY OMG alright… So Wednesday night I saw Augustana at The Gramercy Theatre in NYC. The apartment I stayed at was less than a two minute walk away so it was perfect. We got in and got in about the third row, but definitely close. The opening band was Graffiti6 and they were EXCELLENT. I recommend checking them out. Like a funkier British soulful version of Augustana. I was lovin it. SO THEN AUGUSTANA CAME OUT AND DAN CAME OUT AND HE WAS WEARING A MOTHERFUCKING LEATHER JACKET. LIKE WHY WOULD YOU EVEN DO THAT?!? PLAYING A CONCERT IS A WORKOUT AND A SWEATY JOB, WHY WOULD YOU WEAR LEATHER TO MAKE IT EVEN HOTTER?! IT’S BECAUSE DAN LAYUS KNOWS HE IS RUINING MY LIFE. Anyways, I was freaking out so much when they all came out and started playing that I had to keep closing my eyes because I WAS GOING THROUGH SUCH AN EMOTIONAL ROLLERCOASTER but eventually I (kinda) composed myself and they opened with ‘Hey Now.’ I WAS SCREAMING AND DYING IT WAS VERY AWKWARD BUT AMAZING. And then I basically went into Concert Coma. Concert Coma is what happens to me when I see Augustana or Counting Crows in concert. Basically I become this insane fanatic zombie and I have the best time ever at the concert, but I am not competent enough to take pictures, remember what songs they played in what order, or call my friends. SO I’M SORRY I DO NOT REMEMBER THE EXACT SET LIST. I’m sure someone can tell you. But I will tell you that they played TWENTY EIGHT FUCKING SONGS WHICH WAS OVER TWO HOURS OF ANGELIC PERFECT MUSIC. My favorite song of the night was Dan’s slowed down piano version of ‘On The Other Side’ which I did manage to record a part of. Dan seemed really happy and really optimistic, he said he had a whole new wave of positivity and he felt great and he was finally on the right track. He talked about how he doesn’t use technology which I thanked the Jesuses for because he can never find my blog. He said he was a year sober which made my heart soar with pride. He talked about his wife and kiddies a lot which was adorable. The new band members were precious and awesome and worked so well with Dan and it made me thrilled. HIS NEW SONGS WERE FANTASTIC AND I WAS THE BEST AUGUSTANA FAN IN THE CROWD BECAUSE I ALREADY KNEW ALL THE WORDS TO ALL OF THEM BECAUSE OF ALL OF YOU THANK YOU GUYS. Somebody requested ‘Sunday Best’ and he said he hadn’t played that in about five years and maybe next time. I WOULD’VE LIKE TO HEAR THAT BUT IT’S OKAY. He never took off his leather jacket. He basically surgically removed my heart from my body and then dropped it from the top of the Empire State building and then rushed down to the bottom and caught it JUST IN TIME. Ugh, Augustana. AMAZING. I will post the few pictures/short videos I do have!!!!!
